In my 22 years of being part of the Travel/Wedding Industry, I had seldomly visited Puerto Vallarta mainly because I hadnt fallen in Love with a resort that would attract me to come back as I’ve done in the past with various hotels in Cancun & the Riviera Maya…until, I was invited to visit the Grand Velas Resorts in Puerto Vallarta! “It was at that moment that I fell in Love”. Not only with Puerto Vallarta but with the Grand Velas Resorts and what they stand for. I was lucky enough to stay 3 nights at the Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit which I was well received by, now a very good friend of mine, Maura! She by far took care of all my needs, answered all my questions and was very attentive to any special requests I had. Which brings me to the service; upon my arrival to the resort, I was greeted by almost everyone in the lobby (whether they were taking care of another client or just passing by, they stopped, greeted me with “Buenas Tardes y Bienvenido”). It made my experience start off on the right foot. I’ve always said that when you walk into a room and you’re greeted immediately, you feel welcomed and at home and I did.
A young man, took my luggage and escorted me to a private area where they were hosting the VIP Check-In. They served a nice, chilled drink which hit the spot as it was hot that day. Followed by a tender and neck massage by one of the spas massage therapist, Rocio. With a soft, warm voice the lady checking me in provided me with details of my stay and then handed me my room key. I was then escorted to my room by a gentleman in the concierge department that attended to all my requests throughout my stay.
“I felt like someone important, they made me feel important, they made me important”.
The first thing I do when I arrive into my room, is I take pictures of everything especially the restroom (I have a thing about walking into a clean restroom when not at home). The room is well kept, clean, organized and the fridge is FULLY stocked with beverages and more, so far, so good. I proceed to the balcony and my view is spectacular and breathtaking. This is where I get a bit nostalgic or home sick, why? Well, I get to enjoy these beautiful views, the upscale service I’m being offered and I cant enjoy it with my family (mainly, because I’m “working“). “I wish they could be here” is what I said as soon as I opened the curtains to my balcony but obviously realized that they’re in school and daddy’s working. Ok, enough of that, back to my blog on the Grand Velas Resorts.
Before I continue with the rest of the resort, I have to point out the attention to detail that Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit provided me with. They had a bottle of tequila waiting for me along with a beautiful arrangement of chocolates. It included a personalized letter thanking me for visiting them along with Protravel International’s logo. That to me was perfect, as they truly had to go out of their way to create this. I know I wasn’t the only one they did this for so it tells me that they make EVERYONE feel important. Those are the details that make you fly high on cloud 9.
Later that evening, Maura, set up a meet and greet with us and we dined at Frida Mexican Restaurant, named after Mexico’s most loved artist, Frida Kahlo. What makes this restaurant unique is that as per the artist, the food is not simple, not bland. The Mexican Cuisines they make, are creative, an art an out-of-the-box style of thinking when comparing it to other Mexican foods. When ordering a “Taco”, you wont get your normal “street” tacos de asada, you’ll get a seasoned Shrimp Taco with a delicious Mango Habanero Salsa in a rich Spinach Tortilla accompanied by fresh Pico de Gallo with a lemon twist! Paired with an Ice Cold Modelo Cerveza the combination was just perfect (just writing this makes my mouth water). Excuse me, I’m ordering tacos now…LOL!!! We finished our evening with a delicious dessert made specially for us with chocolate (of course) paired with a fine Local Merlot. Note: the way to my heart is with food & chocolate (you’ll notice a trend throughout this blog).
After maybe the best sleep I’ve had for days, we continued our adventure throughout the property as we were given a Site Inspection, this is where the host takes us all through the resort and talks to us about all their different restaurants, bars, amenities, functions and their specialities. I, for one, was very interested in their Wedding Department as I specialize in Destination Weddings & Honeymoons. I got the opportunity to meet the On-Site coordinators and they gave me the confidence that ALL of their Brides & Grooms are in the best hands when booking a Destination Wedding with them. I left that meeting with so much knowledge and energy to sale the Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit, I loved it.
We continued our site inspection towards paradise or better known as SPA by Velas Resorts. OH MY GOD, the experience was to die for. The sensual massage therapy along with the aromatherapy was as close to heaven as it could’ve gotten. The service, the attention to detail, the sounds, the smells makes you not want to leave EVER. I highly recommend it to those that take a vacation to escape and to get nurtured. Its an experience that should not be left without. As part of my Destination Wedding Packages, I include a Bride and Bridesmaids Spa package because you just have to do it…PERIOD. For the Groom and Groomsmen, I also include a day at the spa…Hey, it’s ok if us men like the spa, no one will judge. It’s about your mind and soul, your sanity, your health and most importantly its about you.
The remainder of our day was at leisure, soooooo, I went to the pool. Now, I’ve not gotten”Pool-Body” and/or “Summer-Body” ready for years but it didn’t matter. I felt welcomed, embraced and very much attended by the Pool Staff that it didn’t matter to me that my “LOVE” handles were exposed! The Sun was bright, the drinks were cold, the food was great and the laughs and conversations with other patrons was phenomenal. I couldn’t have asked for a better at Leisure time than that. The evening rolled by and obviously as soon as I heard that they had a karaoke bar, I had the mic on my hand! I’m no Frank Sinatra or a Michael Buble but I sure tried! I wrapped up my adventure with Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit with coffee and a cigar in my balcony and listening to the ocean waves crash. From my room, I was able to see the lights of El Malecon and if I stayed quite for a bit and paid close attention, I was able to hear the sounds of those enjoying the night life!
Puerto Vallarta, Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit…you just became my go-to Destination and Resort for my Destination Weddings, Honeymoons, Leisure Trips, Family Vacations, Social Gatherings…well, pretty much for everything. Hope to be there with you once again shortly. Gracias y Adios…
